You are using AVG for your anti-virus software, and now every time you open your web browser, AVG Secure Search is your default page. This may occur in IE, Chrome, Firefox, etc.

Solution

AVG has a webpage dedicated to disabling AVG Secure Search. The exact steps differ depending on the web browser in use (refer to the link just listed).

I found that the instructions for Chrome are a little off. For the most recent version of Chrome, do this:

  1. Start Chrome.
  2. Open a new tab.
  3. Click on "Restore default new tab" in the far upper-right.
  4. The AVG Security Toolbar Settings will appear.
  5. Deselect "Show AVG Secure Search Box on new tabs in the browser".
  6. Click Ok.
  7. Restart Chrome.
