Being featured at this year’s Baton Rouge Bar Association (BRBA) Fall Expo & Conference as a HIPAA Defender of law firms was great fun, and gave the Puryear IT support team a chance to let off steam as well as learn about the law profession. As Business Associates governed by HIPAA as covered entities, our valued law firm-clientele were so pleased to have us defending them from compliance violations that they gave us an invite to the expo and conference, which turned out to be one of the most enjoyable nights of the year!
The conference – held at the prestigious L’Auberge Casino & Hotel on Sept. 8 beginning at 10:30 a.m. – featured keynote speakers that included judges, attorneys, over 30 exhibitors, and LSU and SU Law Center deans and chancellors in joint presentations. This year’s theme was pirate’s treasure, and there were bronze, silver, and gold awards given to outstanding exhibitors, such as Postlethwaite & Netterville (gold); FindLaw and Total Care Injury and Pain Centers (silver); and EATEL Business, Electronic Business Systems, Inc., MAPS, Inc.; and TWRU CPAs & Financial Advisors, who all shared the bronze medal. Corporate sponsors were Campus Federal Credit Union and Quality Litigation Support, Inc.
This year’s BRBA event marks 87 years as a celebration of law and business, and features a membership of nearly 2,500 judges and lawyers.
The Puryear IT specialists aid law firms with HIPAA compliance support and expertise, keeping them free of HIPAA violations and fines through security measures that prevent cyber attack, threat, breach, or exploit. And, if we perform outstandingly enough, we get invited to such events as the BRBA Expo & Conference, which was quite a fun and educational symposium. (Not all of our satisfied clients have an annual banquet and expo to invite us too, however.)
