Determine Your AD Logon Server For Your Local PC

You’ve connected to a domain for the first time, and you need to locate the Domain Controller (DC) that your PC is using.

Note that the DC you use as the LOGONSERVER may be one of several in the domain. Your PC will determine the “best” DC to use based on how your AD sites are setup. That said, you will always connect to a single DC until/unless it goes offline or you move your PC to another AD site.

  1. Log into your PC.
  2. Open a command prompt (Start > Run > cmd) or (Windows Key + R).
  3. Type echo %LOGONSERVER%

This will display your PC’s LOGONSERVER.
