You want to disable sleep mode on your computers using an Active Directory GPO.

Creating the Policy

You will create two policies, one for Windows XP and one for Windows Vista.

For Windows XP

  1. Right-click in Power Options
  2. Click New->Power Scheme (Windows XP)
  3. Set Action to Update
  4. Choose the active Power Scheme, which is usually Home/Office Desk
  5. Enable “Make this the active Power Scheme”
  6. Set your Plugged In and Running on Batteries options
  7. Click Ok
 For Windows Vista and up
  1. Right-click in Power Options
  2. Click New->Power Plan (Windows Vista and later)
  3. Set Action to Update
  4. Choose the default power plan, we choose Balanced here
  5. Enable “Set as the active power plan”
  6. To keep computers on while plugged in, ensure that Sleep After and Hibernate After are set to 0

Save your GPO and the settings should apply within several hours.
