Editing Office 365 Exchange Roles produces a “securityPrincipalIds” Error

You are trying to remove a user from an Exchange Role in Office 365 and you get the error “securityPrincipalIds” when trying to save your change.

Solution

Most likely you are trying to remove the last Entry in an Exchange Role in Office 365. We’ve found this produces that error. Do this instead:

  1. Edit the Role membership.
  2. Add the new User/Group to the Exchange Role.
  3. Click Save.
  4. Edit the Role membership.
  5. Remove the old User/Group from the Exchange Role.
  6. Click Save.
