Enable SNMP polling on a Cisco PIX or Cisco ASA

You have a nifty new SNMP monitoring application and you want to poll your Cisco PIX/ASA.

Cisco ASA - Cisco Support

This is actually pretty easy to do via the CLI.

  1. Telnet or SSH into your PIX.
  2. Change to enable mode.
  3. Change to change terminal mode.
  4. Run the following commands.
    enable> snmp-server community <community-name>
    enable> snmp-server enable traps
    enable> snmp-server host <ip-of-snmp-monitoring-computer>
    enable> exit
    > write memory

Refer to the Cisco SNMP KB on this for further details.
