We are constantly on the frontline in the battle with viruses and spyware. These viruses are constantly changing and becoming more and more difficult to detect and remove. There are some basic tools that we always start with to remove these viruses.
- One of the most effective tools that we use is Malwarebytes. This is a spyware /malware scanner that does a great job of identifying most infections. One of the problems you may run into with some of the nastier viruses is that they prevent you from running any programs on your computer.
- If you run into one of these viruses, one tool you can use to attack this with, RKILL, this program with actually kill the virus in memory; remove incorrect file associations and fixes policies. This allows you to install and run a utility like Malwarebytes or SuperAntiSpyware.
- Depending on what virus you have, I always like to do a follow up scan with TDSSKiller or a rootkit remover that is relavant to your particular infection, a rootkit is a virus that hides itself from conventional antivirus software. A rootkit specific scanner may find these hidden files and remove them.
