MEDICAL NEEDS SHELTER:
- A Medical Special Needs Shelter is open at the LSU Fieldhouse. The Medical Special Needs Shelter does not provide emergency services, but is instead a shelter for those who have chronic medical conditions and particular special needs that cannot be accommodated in a general-population shelter. The Medical Special Needs Shelter will not be available to the general public, but only to those with special medical needs. The LSU Pete Maravich Assembly Center is not open at this time and is not serving as a shelter.
- An evacuation shelter for people with special medical conditions only is now open on the LSU campus in Baton Rouge. This is a shelter of last resort for people who currently receive in-home care and is not for the general public.
At 10 p.m. Sunday, the medical special needs shelter opened in the Field House on the LSU campus in Baton Rouge.
This shelter is designed for individuals who are homebound, chronically ill or who have disabilities and are in need of medical or nursing care, and have no other place to receive care.
Those seeking shelter will be screened by nurses to determine the level of care needed. Only people who meet admission criteria can be sheltered.
To access the shelter, a patient or caregiver must first call this triage line phone number: (225) 578-6383.
For general information about the shelter, call (225) 578-3928.
FOR THOSE LOOKING FOR FAMILY MEMBERS IN SHELTERS/HOSPITALS:
- A Facebook group has formed to help people find family members who may have been taken to one of the many shelters currently open in the area.
- Ochsner has established a hotline for family members needing information on the new location of a patient. Family can call 504-842-3198 and will need to provide a patient’s date of birth to receive information about their condition and location. If the patient has not yet been moved, they will receive condition and an update on the intended location and potential arrival time.
PETS:
- Sherwood South Animal Hospital on South Sherwood Forest Blvd. is offering to house pets. They’ve also got doctors on hand. Residents can call (225) 293-6440 for more information.
- A mobile pet shelter has been set up at the Baton Rouge River Center on 275 S River Rd.
KIDNEY DIALYSIS:
- Patients in need of kidney dialysis should call (225) 772-1428.
- Due to severe flooding, DaVita East Baton Rouge Dialysis (on O’Neal Lane) and DaVita Mid City Dialysis (on Florida Blvd.) are currently closed.
