You have properly setup and licensed Microsoft Remote Desktop Services (RDS) 2012 but users are unable to connect and you are noticing a lot of licensing errors in Event Viewer.
Users receive this error message when trying to connect:
You are seeing one or both of these in EventViewer: EventID 1128, 1130.
The solution we found requires a Registry tweak. This is dangerous as always. Proceed with caution. Backup everything.
For the purposes of this post, the License server was assigning licenses to users even though no one could connect. The only error messages we were receiving were EventID 1130.
- Open Registry Editor and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlTerminal ServerRCMGracePeriod
- Delete the L$RTMTIMEBOM… REG_BINARY entry
- Open Services.msc and restart the RDS services
This should resolve your issue!
