Remove a Windows Program via the Command Line

Programs often get removed off of PCs, however many times we have to remove them manually, machine by machine.

The script below is a template on how to remove programs site wide silently using a simple script that can be pushed out to PCs via GPO, LogonScript, or even your favorite RMM.

Solution

  1. Open up Notepad.
  2. Type in the following commands as is: MSIEXEC.exe /x {GUID} /q
  3. Replace GUID with the proper GUID of the program.

If you are having trouble locating the GUID of the program, follow this link http://www.puryear-it.com/blog/2014/07/31/how-to-find-guid-of-a-program/

You’ve now successfully created a script that will uninstall programs as needed.

This will not work for programs that require passwords to uninstall them (e.g., Trend Office Scan).
