Did you know that if you have an iPhone 4S and the right data plan, that you can use your iPhone 4S as a hotspot? This is perfect if there is a power loss at your house or office, which usually means your main Internet is down with the power line, but you have a laptop, plenty of battery life, and an iPhone.
Okay, bummer. A hurricane just hit. You have no power. But lo and behold, you still have a 4G signal or better. Great! You can still surf the Internet on your phone. But what about your laptop? Or any other device with WiFi? With the AT&T iPhone 4S hotspot data plan, you’re in luck.
- Ensure you have the AT&T hotspot on your data plan
- Grab your iPhone
- Click on Settings
- Click on Network
- Click on Personal Hotspot
- Change from Off to On
Your iPhone will create a WiFi network based on your phone’s name, e.g., “Bob’s iPhone 4S”. The WPA password is shown in the Personal Hotspot screen on the iPhone 4S.
If you are curious if this works, it does. I have surfed the Internet from my laptop, an Xbox, and a Roku using nothing but the iPhone 4S’ Personal Hotspot feature.
