View the hardware details of a VMware vSphere Server remotely

You need to review the hardware, down to the RAM slots in use, remotely for a VMware vSphere server.

You can view the detailed hardware specs of a server running VMware without ever having to power down or crack open the cases. For example, you may want to know how much RAM is in the server, what the stick sizes are, and what slots they are installed in.

Below is how to do so:

  1. Using a program such as PuTTY, SSH into your VMServer.
  2. Login to your VMware Server, run command smbiosDump.
  3. Once command is run, you can view things in detail such as all the memory sticks and what slot they are in.
