Where are the QNAP Syslog Log Files Located?

The QNAP NAS devices run on a bare-bones Linux OS. Sometimes for debugging, you’ll want to look for the syslog log files. These aren’t generally available via the QNAP web interface.

Solution

These logs are located in /mnt/HDA_ROOT/.logs

[/mnt/HDA_ROOT/.logs] # pwd
/mnt/HDA_ROOT/.logs
[/mnt/HDA_ROOT/.logs] # ll
drwxr-xr-x 3 admin administ 4.0k Jul 16 07:58 ./
drwxr-xr-x 10 admin administ 4.0k Jul 16 06:37 ../
-rw-r–r– 1 admin administ 24.0k Mar 29 2012 conn.log
-rw-r–r– 1 admin administ 118.0k Jul 16 07:58 event.log
-rw-r–r– 1 admin administ 138.2k Jul 22 20:55 kmsg
-rw-r–r– 1 admin administ 500.0k Jul 16 06:37 kmsg.1
-rw-r–r– 1 admin administ 1.0M Jul 15 11:11 kmsg.2
drwx—— 2 admin administ 4.0k Jul 16 06:37 qsync/

The most interesting log is kmsg, which is similar to /var/log/messages on most Linux systems.
