Employment engagement

Employee engagement expresses the level of enthusiasm and dedication a worker feels toward their job. Employee engagement is vital to a company's success given its ties to job satisfaction and employee morale. Employees who feel connected to their organization work harder, stay longer, and motivate others to do the same. Keeping employees engaged is a top tech challenge faced by businesses.

The characteristics of employee engagement include the following:

  • employees working with a sense of purpose
  • a deep commitment to the organization
  • a dedication to performing well
  • a collaborative attitude
  • good communication with co-workers and leaders
  • the ability to give and receive feedback positively

Employee engagement can be an ongoing challenge for business, but you may not think of it as an IT issue. Technology makes work easier and more efficient and employees today expect simple, quick, and intuitive workplace technology. Employees are not going to be motivated to work for you if they feel frustrated by slow systems, challenged by your software solutions, or have to deal with unexpected downtime.

At the same time, your IT team could be facing burnout as well as a loss of motivation due to the routine and repetitive nature of their work.

Three Ways to Meet the Challenge:

  1. Become a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) company, as employees often want this and have more advanced personal devices. Just be sure to have a BYOD security policy in place!
  2. Establish systems and software platforms to enable collaboration and effective communication.
  3. Reduce attrition within the company by offering flexible work options, competitive pay, and motivational efforts to engage employees in your organizational culture.
